Gail Baker age 73 of Norwood Young America passed away Friday February 21, 2014 at the Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice House of Chaska.
Memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM Friday March 7, 2014 at the Johnson Funeral Home (141 E. First St.) in Waconia with Rev. Helmar Heckel officiating. Gathering of family and friends will be Friday from 5:00 PM until the time of the service.
Gail was born in Minneapolis, MN at Maternity Hospital on January 13, 1941 to Delores and Christy Paul Judge. She grew up in Minneapolis and then Bloomington, Minnesota. Gail graduated from Bloomington High School in 1959. Her first job was as a car hop at Nelson’s Drive Inn in Richfield. She met her husband Robert in 1960 while working at Donaldson’s Department Store at Southdale in Edina. They married February 11, 1961 at St Peters Church in Richfield, MN. Together they had three children; Peter, Maria, and Teresa.
Gail graduated from Normandale Community College in 1973 and became a psychotherapist in private practice. From 1971 to 1981 she was a volunteer probation officer for Hennepin County and helped implement and maintain a support group type treatment program for shoplifters as opposed to jail time. In 1973 she became certified in Mental Health Social Work and began working with prisoners at the MN State Prison in Stillwater as a therapist.
She taught at Minneapolis Community College from 1980 to 1988 and taught community education classes all over the cities for many years. Gail was an active member of the Twin Cities Miniature Schnauzer Club and bred miniature schnauzers for a short time. Gail loved to garden and wove beautiful baskets in her spare time. She was very active in 4-H and Girl Scouts when her children were growing up.
Gail is preceded in death by her parents Christy Paul and Delores Judge; husband Robert Baker; brother Kirby Judge.
Gail is survived by family: son Peter Baker of Buffalo Center, IA; daughters and son-in-law Maria Gabrielle of Charlotte, NC, Teresa and Dean Christopherson of Norwood Young America; grandchildren Alena Baker, Cassandra Freirichs and husband Ryan, Morgan Christopherson, Tristen Christopherson, Camden Christopherson; great grandchild Ella Freirichs; brothers and sisters-in-law Greg and Pat Judge of Eagan, Shawn and Cindy Judge of Maple Plain, Christy Paul and Mary Judge II of Columbia Heights, Jeb Judge of Eden Prairie; sister Karen Kelleher of Apple Valley; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
