Ronald "Ron" E. Waits

Ronald (Ron, Ronnie) Edwin Waits, age 81, passed away November 9, 2013 at Veterans Administration Medical Center, St. Cloud, MN.
Memorial Service held Thursday November 14, 2013 - 11:00 am Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church West Campus in Victoria with Rev. Ken Kotzer officiating; a gathering of family and friends Wednesday 5-7 pm Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia and at the church 1 hour prior to the service. Masonic and American Legion Service Wednesday 6:30 pm at the funeral home.
He was born October 4, 1932 in Davenport, Iowa. His parents were Louie and Thelma (Dyer) Waits. He was baptized April 16, 1933 by Rev A. Bostelmann at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Davenport, Iowa. Rev. Wm. Eller confirmed Ron April 10, 1949 at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Davenport, Iowa.
Ron’s education began in Davenport, Iowa. He graduated in 1952 from Antelope Valley High School, Lancaster, California. Ron entered the United States Air Force in 1952. He was in the 8th Air Force Command and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant as a pilot instructor using the Link Trainer. Ron was honorably discharged in 1956. He was a member of the MN Chapter of the 8th Air Force Historical Society. The Air Force was in his heart forever.
Ron continued his education at Antelope Valley Jr. College, Lancaster, CA, Fresno State University, Fresno, CA, St. Cloud State College, St. Cloud, MN and Mankato State College, Mankato, MN. His majors were elementary education and business. Ron was a multi-talented fellow with many interests. His career included teaching elementary education in Ogilvie and Waconia, MN, and varied sales positions. He concluded his work years as a self-employed business man. He was proud to be a Volunteer Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff Lester Melchert.
Ron was a member of the Masonic Fraternity since 1954, receiving a 50 Year Recognition Certificate September 13, 2004. He was a member of Waconia Lodge No. 326 and also a member of American Legion Post 0150, Waconia, MN.
Ron and Karin (Olson) were married by Rev. Leonard Turnquist on May 27, 1961 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Brunswick, MN. They made their home in Minneapolis, Ogilvie, Victoria and for 48 years on beautiful Pierson Lake, Chaska, MN. Ron and Karin became members of Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis in 1965. In recent years, they worshipped at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church in Victoria.
Ron lived a full life with many passions including music and dancing, hunting, camping, travel, white cake with lemon filling, good food and the company of their dogs: Trixie and five miniature German Schnauzers, Scooter, Twister, Dodger, Charlie and Charlie II. The dogs` names reveal the interest he had in Charles Dickens. “The Christmas Carol” play was an annual event.
Ron loved his family and many great friends. He had so much fun celebrating special occasions decked out in his many costumes. He took pride in being well- dressed. Daily coffee with “The Guys” at The Lodge in the Chaska Community Center was the highlight of his day.
He loved his brown-eyed girl and found every opportunity to tell her. He spent his final time in her arms, exactly where he wanted to be.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Neal Schoenfelder and nephew Matt Schoenfelder.
He is survived by his wife Karin, Nephew Mark Schoenfelder (Susan), Niece-in-law, Liz (Schoenfelder) Mills (Darrel), Great nieces Sarah (Wilson), Emily (Chris), Katie, Great nephews, Luke and Noah and a Great-great nephew, Christian, Cousin Sharon Tunison and family; and many friends and Schnauzer, Charlie II.
