Roland J. Miles

Roland Miles, age 61 of Burnsville died Friday March 16, 2012 at the Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice House of Chaska. Memorial service 3:00 PM Saturday April 21, 2012 at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia with Rev. Steve Anderson officiating, with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Roland James Miles was born June 12, 1950 the son of Leroy and Elvi (Moilenen) Miles in Minneapolis. After graduating from high school Roland earned his Masters at the University Of Minnesota. He was employed as a labor negotiator.

Roland was an inspiration battling cancer for two years just as he had strived in his life to advance the well-being of his fellows. Roland sought rights for the underdog. In his life he was drawn to service through a caring and compassionate nature, whether defending employees as a union representative, caring for patients at a nursing home, or taking care of family members, Roland was steadfast in his commitments. He also balanced his life with adventures; traveling, biking, hiking, dancing, singing, and loving his friend and family. He wanted a better world through greater fairness and justice.

Roland is preceded in death by his father Leroy Miles, sister Nancy Miles, and second wife Maris Jo Miles. Roland is survived by his loving family: daughter Lisa Nelson and husband Ryan of Duluth, son Stephen Miles of St. Peter, mother Elvi Miles of St. Louis Park, brothers Larry Miles and wife Elizabeth of Raleigh, NC and Michael Miles and wife Laurie Lindor of Victoria, former wife and best friend Carol Miles of Eagan; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Although Roland is now onto another adventure, the causes he fought for will be carried on by his band of brothers.
